Chad Former President Hissen Habre Sentenced To Death

Former President Hissen was sentenced in absentia along with several rebel leaders, who launched an assault on the Chadian capital, N'Djamena, earlier this year. Mr Habre plan to overthrow the government has sentenced by court in Chad to death.

Mr Habre, sometimes dubbed "Africa's Pinochet", was deposed in 1990 and lives in exile in Senegal. He is unlikely to leave Senegal which has been asked by the African Union to try him for alleged rights crimes.

King George Tupou V Of Tonga Crowned

A traditional coronation ceremony was held in capital Nuku'Alofa to crowned King George Tupou V and to become the 23rd monarch of Tonga. He was crowned before a congregation of 1,000 that included Tongan, British, Japanese and Thai royalty, as well as South Pacific chiefs and heads of state.

Farmer Undergoes World's First Double Arm Transplant

54-year-old man undergoes the world's first double arm transplant six years after losing his arms in an accident. German doctors have carried out a complete double arm transplant and the donor is believed to be a teenager who had died shortly before the surgery. Neither man's name has been released by the Munich clinic.
